Parenting Education
I have been a parenting educator/consultant for over 20 years. I learned Systematic Training for Effective Parenting from a colleague. I used it effectively in my classroom at the time and since. Because I had found a way to make it easier to communicate with children and to help them grow into adults who would have healthy ways to relate to themselves and others, I felt it incumbent on me to make the lives of parents easier. After all, parenting is the hardest job in the world and the one for which we receive little or no formal training.
I launched my practice in upstate New York with private workshops for parents and couples who knew they needed help figuring out the best techniques to be good parents. I was hired by the county to help parents whose children had been removed from their care because of reported abuse. They could only have a chance at reuniting their families if they took my course. I also gave workshops to teachers and non-instructional employees in local schools.
All of these various venues and participants gave me a sense of gratification as they came back each week and told me, "It works! I tried what we talked about and it works!"
It does work, because it's systematic. It includes ways of identifying the goals of behavior and deciding whether and how to act to influence a child's behavior.
I use S.T.E.P. in my own life now as a parent, and I advise other parents on a one-to-one basis. I'd be pleased to help you with your parenting challenges.
Writing
I am a natural Wordsmith. I grew up in a household headed by an attorney and a teacher, both of whom valued strong language skills and good grammar--the spoken and the written word. I am also lucky. I am a great speller and I catch errors easily. I believe that words are powerful tools for communication and should be used artfully and accurately. Colleagues have often said to me, "You express ideas so articulately. You should be a writer."
Well, I have become a writer. I would like to help you with any writing needs you have, from print and web marketing copy to the next great American novel. I will help you hone your message if that's what you need. And if you simply need a pair of eyes that doesn't know what you meant to say to proofread your work, I can do that, too.
